Acne or Pimples
Acne is a skin condition, also known as acne vulgaris, that occurs when your hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. It often causes whiteheads, blackheads and usually appears on the face, forehead, chest, upper back, and shoulders. Acne is most common among teenagers, though it affects people of all ages. Common triggers include:
- High humidity and sweating
- Inadequate face washing
- Occlusive cosmetics, cleansers, lotions, and clothing
- Hormonal changes that occur with pregnancy or the menstrual cycle
- Polycystic ovary syndrome
- Association with milk products and high-glycaemic diets.
- Some drugs and chemicals (e.g. corticosteroids, lithium, phenytoin, isoniazid)
Symptoms:
Signs and symptoms vary depending on the severity of your condition:
- Whiteheads
- Blackheads
- Small red, tender bumps
- Pimples with pus at their tips
- Large, solid, painful lumps.
- Painful, pus-filled lumps.
Eczema
Eczema is a condition where patches of skin become inflamed, itchy, red, cracked, and rough. Eczema is also called dermatitis. Most types cause dry, itchy skin and rashes on the face, inside the elbows and behind the knees, and on the hands and feet. Scratching the skin can cause it to turn red, and to swell and itch even more.
Symptoms: Symptoms vary depending on the severity of your condition:
- Dry, sensitive skin
- Red, inflamed skin
- Very bad itching
- Dark coloured patches of skin
- Rough, leathery, or scaly patches of skin
- In some patients Oozing or crusting on Areas of swelling
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that causes skin cells to multiply up to 10 times faster than normal. The main symptoms are white scaly patches of skin that may itch. They can grow anywhere, but most appear on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back. Psoriasis cannot be passed from person to person. It does sometimes happen in members of the same family. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease. Certain triggers may make your symptoms worse, including: Cold, dry weather, Stress, Some medicines, Infections, Skin Injury, Alcohol and Smoking.
Symptoms:
- Common signs and symptoms include:
- Red patches of skin covered with thick, silvery scales
- Small scaling spots (commonly seen in children)
- Dry, cracked skin that may bleed
- Itching, burning or soreness
- Thickened, pitted, or ridged nails
- Swollen and stiff joints
